Library Notes 1/10/08
Storytime
Is there a polar bear in your fridgidaire? We’ll be looking there and in other unlikely places in this sometimes-artic themed storytime. Toddlers’ storytime Wednesday at 10:15, Preschool storytime Thursdays at 10:15.
Candy Sushi
Something fishy’s going on with our sushi rolls. You won’t find fish anywhere near them. Kids are invited to join us as we create rolls out of fruit roll ups, marshmallow, gummy worms, licorice and other delectable ingredients. Wednesday, January 16th at 4:00 p.m. Please register by January 14th. 861-7239.
Veggie Sushi
For those with a hankering for less sugar (and perhaps more authenticity), we’ll be rolling the nori and rice kind of sushi. In place of raw fish, we’ll use cucumbers, pears, avocados and other fruits and veggies. Don’t forget your appetite, as we’ll end the program by eating our creations. January 16th, 6:30 p.m. Please register by January 14th. 861-7239.
Read to a Dog
Come on in and read to Jane, the Portuguese water dog who loves to listen to stories. Jane is at the Library Thursday afternoons from 3-4. Reading to Jane is a great way for kids to gain confidence in their reading abilities while having fun. Call 861-7239 to sign up for a 15-minute time slot or just drop in.
Annual Meeting
The Annual Meeting of the Altamont Free Library Board of Trustees will be held Monday, January 14th at 7:00 p.m. The public is welcome.
Blogs, RSS, and online calendars- fancy new ways to keep in touch - January 23rd 4:00 p.m. Registration Required
Computer Classes for Adults
Back for the New Year, this series of classes for adults teaches everything you want to know about computers but were afraid to ask. Over the course of five weeks, we’ll cover basic computer skills, web searching (2 weeks), email, and word processing. Classes meet Tuesdays at 10:15, starting January 15th. No prior experience is assumed. Call 861-7239 to register. Classes are capped at three participants and are filled on a first-come first-served basis.
Library Joke
We supply the title; you supply a “punny” author. This week’s title in search of an author: Human Resources Manager: Last week’s title: Off Balance: The official answer is: Eileen Dover and Phil Down. Commendations to our contestants Claire Battista for her entries Nada Straight, T. Tering and Lil' Tilt, and to Phyllis Smith for Eileen Wright (my fave), Peg Legg and Tip C. Mann.
