Library Notes 8.10

Library Notes

By Judith Wines

Summer Reading club is drawing to a close – be sure to come to the Library and fill in those reading logs by August 15th.

End of Summer Reading Party!

Join us Thursday, August 17th at 1:30 p.m. in the Village Community Room. J Ernie McHale, magician and balloonist extraordinaire will give a “treasure-filled” show. Fill in those reading charts and stay tuned!

Book Club

Join us for a discussion of Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. Peter, because he's the oldest, must deal with his brother Fudgie's disgusting cuteness, his constant meddling with Peter's stuff, and other grave offenses, one of which is almost too much to bear. All these incidents are presented with the unfailing ear and big-hearted humor of the masterful Judy Blume. Monday, August 28th at 4 p.m. Request your copy at the Library today.

Board Openings

Library Trustees are taking resumes and letters of interest from people in our service area (Guilderland Center, the Altamont area and the Knox area) to serve on the Board of Trustees. This is a three-year term of service with the opportunity to serve a second three-year term if so desired. We encourage anyone who is interested in the future of the library and has the time and commitment to its vision and mission to apply.

Pirate Craft

On this last day of salty crafts, we’ll read The Treasure Hunt by Bill Cosby and have our own Library show and tell of treasures. All elementary school students are welcome. Wednesday at 2.

Story Time

The Library is going to the dogs – join Old Mother Hubbard at the Library for a story time session sure to be visited by Spot and BINGO. We’ll read of canine capers, assemble a craft almost as cute as that doggy in the window and try to avoid sending folks barking up the wrong tree. Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Caterpillars

Come check out our very own Very Hungry Caterpillar! Matilda the monarch is metamorphisizing on the circulation desk as you read this.

Library Joke:

What do you call a pirate that skips class? Email your answers to winesj@uhls.lib.ny.us. Something cool to the winner…The answer to last week’s joke: What has 8 arms and 8 legs? Eight pirates!
