Library Notes

Our library has just received a gift of 100 new children's books, ranging from pre-kindergarten through early readers. These books were a donation from the Brownstone Books Fund, a private foundation in New York City, interested in fostering early reading, a love of books and encouraging parents and children to read together.

Book Club

The fourth grade and up book club will discuss The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. In this Historical fiction/ adventure yarn, a 12 year old, on a long, grueling journey from England to Rhode Island in 1802, changes from a prim and proper girl to a swashbuckling mate of a mutinous crew and is accused of murder by the captain. We’ll meet to talk about this book Tuesday August 29th at 4 p.m. Ask the Library for your copy today…

Pirate Craft

Have you accumulated lots of loot over the summer? Do you need a case to store it? Clearly, you are in need of a treasure chest. Charge down to the Library to assemble a treasure chest of your own (you can use it to store all your summer reading prizes). Come on in Wednesday, August 9^th at 2 p.m. This drop in program is for kids in elementary school.

Storytime

Running simultaneously with the Pirate Craft, a less motor-skills intensive story time will feature the perennial favorite topic of dinosaurs. Children under 5 are welcome. Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Save the Date

The end-of-summer reading party will be Thursday, August 17^th at 1:30 p.m. J Ernie McHale, magician and balloonist extraordinaire will give a “treasure-filled” show. The location will be either Orsini Park or the Village Community Room. Fill in those reading charts and stay tuned!
