Library Notes

By Judith Wines

Pre-School Story Time

Are you concerned that Valentine’s Day has run amuck in a wave of commercialism? We have the antidote right here at the Altamont Library! You and your preschoolers can celebrate sentimentally with seasonal classics such as The Owl and the Pussycat and Arthur’s Valentine without worrying about perpetuating the flowers-and-chocolate industrial complex. We will also participate in the manufacture of valentines.

Kids Book Club

Next installment in the 2nd-4th grade kids’ book club is Frindle. What’s a frindle, a reasonable reader might wonder. Join us Monday February 27th at 4 PM for a discussion of this imaginative tale about creative thought and the power of words and find out. Sign up at the Library this week and we’ll request a copy of the book for you.

Senior’s Lunch

Do you like books with your lunch? While the Library does not officially promote reading under your lunch (think dribbles of tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich crumbs among the pages of our fine volumes) we will be making a visit to the Senior Center at St. Lucy’s on Tuesday February 7th for lunch. Whether you are a regular lunch attendee or a sporadic snacker, join us as we explore what the Library has to offer the AARP eligible segment of the population and learn about a few authors who you may not have normally contemplated exploring.

Ongoing Events

Don’t forget, every Tuesday is Read to A Dog – call the Library to make an appointment or just drop in between 3:30 and 4:30. Computer Classes for Adults have been filling up well in advance. The Library is now accepting reservations for March classes. There is no fee for this 5 part introductory series. Call the Library at 861-7239 for more information or to sign up.
