Library Notes 11/03

Architecture Program

Historic buildings can be delightful to the eye and to those who enjoy learning their architectural and historic lineage. Preservation planner, Lorraine E. Weiss, will present a slide discussion on American architectural history and explore the characteristics of building styles common to the Capital District. This free, informative program will take place at the Altamont Community Room (behind the Altamont Fire House on Main St., Altamont) on Thursday, November 10, 2005, at 7:00 p.m. It is co-sponsored by the Altamont Free Library and Altamont Community Traditions. Those in attendance are encouraged to bring along images of their homes to identify during an informal audience participation discussion after the slide presentation.

Quilt Appraisals

On the Twelfth of November the Library will be hosting a professional quilt appraiser. Afternoon slots are available. The fee is $25, five of which will benefit the library.

Kid’s Book Clubs

Bud Not Buddy is a Newberry winning tale of a ten year old who goes off in search of his father in the face of the Great Depression. We will be discussing this chapter book (suitable for kids in or around 4th grade and up) on Tuesday, November 22nd at 4:00

My Father’s Dragon is a nonsensical tale told in a deadpan style. This beginning chapter book (good for readers in 2nd-4th grade) features alley cats and baby dragons. We will meet to discuss the book Monday November 21st at 4:00.

To join either club, sign up at the library today to request your copy.

Infant Lap-sit

Tuesday mornings at 10:30, Parents and their children aged 24 months and younger are invited to a story time incorporating stories, songs and playtime at the Altamont Free Library. (Older siblings are welcome too). Spread the word to any new parents you may know.

Read to a Dog

Jane, a Portuguese Water Dog, will be visiting the Library on Friday afternoons beginning in November. Sign up for a one-on-one read between 3:30 and 4 or stop by between 4:00 and 4:30 for open reading time.

Joke of the Week:

Why does an elephant use his trunk as a bookmark?

Email your answer to:

winesj@uhls.lib.ny.us

or stop by the Library and drop your answer off. Ice Cream cone to the best answer!

Last week’s joke:

Where are there more nobles than in the royal court?

At the Library, where every book has a title.
