Library Notes 10/20

Zinc Monument Tour

On Saturday, October 29, historian Raymond W. Smith, who has done extensive research into the design, manufacture and distribution of Zinc cemetery monuments, popular in the half century prior to the First World War, will lead a slide discussion and cemetery tour among the markers. The program will begin at the Altamont Free Library, at 9:30 a.m. with coffee and pastries followed by a slide talk. Participants will then go to the Fairview Cemetery, a short distance outside of the Village of Altamont to tour the zinc monuments there and learn of their significance. A charge of $10.00 for participants, $8.00 for Friends of the Library will go to the Library Building Fund.

Computer Class

On 10/27 at 10:30 we will be exploring the intriguing idioms of the Internet. Topics will include search engines, URLs, Bookmarks and hyperlinks. Registration is required as space is limited. Call the Library at 861-7239.

Social Stichers

Whether you’re nuts for knitting, crazy about crochet, frenzied over felting or merely curious about crafting, the library has the group for you. Join us Wednesday afternoons at 2 at the library for the opportunity to stitch and share hints and company with other crafters. Bring a project craft and a friend

Pre-School Story Hour

Bring a kid and start your second childhood – Mondays and Wednesdays at 10.

Fish

Come meet the latest (and only) gilled residents of the Altamont Free Library. We have fish! Thanks to Michelle Matejka and the Blakeley family for donating portions of the digs of new denizens

Joke of the Week

The suspense is over. The answer to last week’s joke:

Why was the Tyranosaurus Rex afraid to go the Library?

Because her books were 65 million years overdue and the thought of the late fines was terrifying.

This week’s joke: What does the librarian say when she has to leave?

Email your answer to winesj@uhls.lib.ny.us or stop by the Library and drop your answer off.
